Darin Layne, based in Austin, TX, is a renowned guitarist and composer celebrated for his expertise in playing, composing, recording, and producing. His latest album, "D Shack" (2021), a collaboration with David Pulkingham, showcases his mastery on the 7-string guitar along with his skills on various instruments, featuring live takes and guest artists to enrich the sound.
"D Shack" and his earlier albums like "Stringology" (2017) and "Poison Flower" (2015) have solidified his status as an Austin favorite and earned him international recognition. Darin's journey in music began in New England, where he was recognized as a prodigy at piano before moving to cello, then saxophone, and finally guitar, fascinated by its broader musical scope. He honed his guitar skills at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston and earned a Jazz Guitar Performance degree from the University of North Texas. With nine albums of his own, numerous studio recordings, and countless performances, Darin has been featured in magazines like Guitar Player and JazzTimes. As a session guitarist, he has explored genres like Jazz, Country, Latin, Rock, and Classical.
Darin's work extends to film, TV, and radio, with his studio guitar playing featured on Netflix's "Blue Miracle" soundtrack and various radio and TV programs. He leads several projects like Left of Sunday Afternoon, The Darin Layne Trio, and The Crying Monkeys, and has collaborated with artists like Moby and David Lynch. Darin also teaches guitar at Austin Community College and maintains a private studio.
